Halifax’s downtown and the trendy North End neighbourhood are also home to several gay-owned cafés, bars and specialty shops where patrons are always welcomed by the friendly nature of Haligonians.

There are numerous ways to get to Halifax. By air, the Halifax Stanfield International Airport offers direct flights from many Canadian, US, European, and Caribbean destinations. By sea, over 20 cruise lines include Halifax as a marquee port-of-call on their Canada-New England or Transatlantic itineraries.

ViewFinders is a five-day celebration of film, video and media geared towards youth ages 3-18. The festival includes a comprehensive school program complete with a guide for educators, as well as evening and weekend screenings and events for families and young adults. ViewFinders features films from around the world and includes a selection of films made by youth.

Watching the Blue Nose International Marathon can be almost as memorable as running it. Thousands of Haligonians and visitors will line streets in the HRM to watch 8,000 runners and walkers from across the province, as well as other parts of Canada and the US.

The TD Halifax Jazz Festival (formerly the Atlantic Jazz Festival) is the oldest jazz festival and largest summer festival in the Atlantic region. The event spans two weekends (9 nights, 8 days), attracts up to 65,000 visitors, involves 450 volunteers and employs over 350 local musicians. Our stages proudly present jazz, the heart and core of our programming, and its relations--world, blues, Latin, etc.

Ships from around the world will join many of Canada's finest sailing vessels to form the international gathering of world-class Tall Ships in Halifax. Organizers are expecting 50-70 vessels making it the largest gathering of tall ships in North America in a decade.
