Scenic vistas, mysterious coves, mountain tops with forested glens and glacier-white, sandy beaches. Lake Tahoe is pristine beauty. The area has not one, but two gay ski week celebrations, as well as a handful of gay owned and operated cabins and bed & breakfasts. Some organizations here offer commitment ceremonies for gay couples, who've found the incredible lake views a proper backdrop for their outdoor observances.

The winter schedule for gay travelers is punctuated by Blue Gay-La and WinterFest Gay and Lesbian Ski Week, in its 13th year.

Blue Gay-La is South Lake Tahoe's legendary gay ski week. With three South Shore resorts offering a combined 9,100 skiable acres, they claim "size definitely does matter in Lake Tahoe." For non-skiers, there are plenty of indoor/outdoor adventure options from snowmobile rides and ice skating to boat cruises and spa treatments. For several years now, South Lake Tahoe's Gay and Lesbian Ski Week has been offering great entertainment - notorious Drag Races on skis and memorable apres ski parties.

Once a year, tens of thousands of participants gather to create Black Rock City in Nevada's Black Rock Desert (two hours outside of Reno). Dedicated to community, art, self-expression, and self-reliance, Burning Man is a blast, with hundreds of daytime and nighttime activities every day. While not specifically an LGBT event, there is probably no more gay-friendly city in America... well at least for one week. Join Queer folks from across the world! The Black Rock City Convention & Visitors Bureau welcomes you.
The Annual Kokanee Salmon Festival will be held this year on October 3rd and 4th from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the U.S. Forest Service Visitor Center at Taylor Creek, 3 miles north of the City of South Lake Tahoe on California Highway 89. The festival is a weekend of family activities celebrating the annual spawning run of the Kokanee Salmon up Taylor Creek and the golden colors of Fall. Come enjoy the special events, great food, and meet Sammy Salmon! This year's celebrations include a number of events and activities that have become associated with the Salmon Festival. Back this year will be the Salmon Feed, 5k, 10k, a children's run, children's activities, educational programs and booths, and streamside programs.
