It’s Seattle’s traditional summer festival. A month-long, region-wide barbecue, that brings an entire community together in celebration. For 59 years Seafair has been about community events, parades, Miss Seafair, the Navy and Coast Guard, amateur athletics, airplanes and of course, boat racing. But most of all, Seafair has been about people and it continues to be.

Pines Party
Since 1999, when an Arabian tent city arose like an oasis along the shoreline of Fire Island, Pines Party has become an annual tradition that has evolved into a weekend-long event.
More than just an all-night dance, Pines Party is the community’s premier annual fundraising event, providing grants for two essential beneficiaries: the Stonewall Community Foundation and the Fire Island Pines Property Owners Association Charitable Foundation.
Pines Party is very much a community-wide affair. Local builders donate their manpower and expertise to help construct a canopied dance floor, sponsor tents, restroom facilities, the main stage, a side lounge, bars, etc., while Pines residents bring their artistic sensibility, professional know-how and connections to bear on the design, personnel, planning and promotion.
Pines Party has become a world-class event that attracts partygoers from around the world, as well as the support of major corporate sponsors.

Relay For Life of the LGBT Community and Friends
One in three people will be diagnosed with cancer within their lifetime, and the LGBT community is affected disproportionately by lung cancer, rectal cancer, and cervical cancer. The money raised through Relay For Life saves lives by funding cutting-edge cancer research, advocacy efforts, patient services, early detection and prevention education. The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is a life-changing event that gives everyone in communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease. At Relay, teams of people camp out at a local high school, park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event. Because cancer never sleeps, Relays are overnight events up to 24 hours in length.

GLBT History Month
To celebrate gay history this October, Equality Forum selected 31 GLBT leaders, one for each day of the month. They chose individuals living or dead, who have distinguished themselves within their field of endeavor, as national heroes, or in the GLBT civil rights movement.
The goal of GLBT History Month is to teach gay history, to provide inspiring role models, and to highlight important worldwide contributions by gay people. These are just a few of the pioneers highlighted last year and this year. You can find out the complete list of which leaders were chosen and more about them at Equality Forum.
